 and enzyme engineering to investigate and customise novel biosynthetic enzymes that can convert biomass-derived feedstocks into better fuels, pharmaceuticals, and value-added chemicals. In addition to extending these principles to the design and development of unique bioremediation strategies, they also pursue medical biotechnology research, and are working extensively on infectious disease drug discovery, drug delivery, and tissue engineering. As an enthusiastic proponent of application-oriented science and knowledge translation for the development of low-cost technologies, Dr. Yadav and his research group sustain extensive collaborations with local start-ups, industry, academic groups, and medical research laboratories.

Reg has over 15 years of experience in the biotechnology sector and has worked extensively with large public companies as well as start-ups. He is currently the Vice Chair of BioTalent Canada and Chair of SAGE. In the past, he has worked with the initiation of companies like Caliper Life Sciences Inc. Helicos BioSciences, Sequenom Inc., and Applied Biosystems as an Equity Research Associate Analyst at Leerink Swann LLC. Reg also served as the CEO for Metabolomic Technologies Inc. (MTI), company which received the Frost & Sullivan Technology Leadership Award in 2014 and was declared the University of Alberta’s Start-up of the year in 2013. He also had the Vice President, Health position at Alberta Innovates before becoming the incoming CEO of Edmonton Health City.  He holds a B.Sc. in Physiology and an MBA in Finance from the University of Saskatchewan.

Dr. Seifried is a recipient of the Scientific Achievement and Innovation Award during the 15th Annual BioAlberta Awards Gala. This award is presented to an individual or a team who is responsible for a breakthrough innovation with commercial application. He is the co-inventor of the novel platform processing technology called Pressurized Gas eXpanded Liquid Technology (PGX) which is ideally suited for processing challenging high-molecular weight water soluble bio-polymers and has the ability to make ultra-light, highly porous polymer structures. He earned his Ph.D. in Food and Bioresource Engineering from the University of Alberta and joined Ceapro in 2010 where he successfully designed all the equipment and modifications required to scale-up PGX at a level that will enable commercial applications.

Areas of Specialization: Scale-up and Development of PGX Technology, supercritical fluids, extraction and impregnation of bioactives, particle design, aerogels, biopolymer processing, nanoparticles, drug delivery systems, membrane development, process and application development.

Dr. Patricia Nadworny completed her B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering in 2004, and then a multidisciplinary Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering in 2009 on the topic of “Biological Activity of Nanostructured Silver”, all at the University of Alberta.  Dr. Nadworny then joined Innovotech in early 2010 as a Research Scientist/Industrial Post-Doc (AITF r&D Associate), began a supervisory role heading up Innovotech’s Chemistry Department in Fall 2010, and became Innovotech’s Product Development Manager in early 2012, making her responsible for all aspects of product development from proof-of-concept to market entry.  She became a Professional Engineer in Fall 2012.  She manages the company’s intellectual property portfolio and is an inventor on multiple patents, as well as an author on seventeen papers, including some papers which have been cited hundreds of times. She also manages a joint microbiology/chemistry research team in the development of Innovotech’s antimicrobial/anti-biofilm products, including InnovoSIL™, Innovotech’s family of silver compounds for medical device applications; and Agress® and AgreGuard™, Innovotech’s novel silver-based crop treatment products.

Niall has directed his long-standing passion for science towards a undergraduate degree in Zoology, where he focused on exploring environmental toxicology questions using model organisms. He has since added technology commercialization and business expertise to his repertoire through the addition of a Master of Biomedical Technology to his education. He is presently working as the Program Coordinator at Genome Alberta where he is using his skills to help drive the application of genomic technologies in Alberta’s industries. Sustainability and environmental responsibility have always been a key value for Niall. He is a strong proponent that the implementation of genomic technologies can substantially decrease the environmental impact of industry and help lead society into a more sustainable future.

As the former CEO of the Delta Genomics Centre, Dr. Coros built a national, biobanking, genotyping, and sequencing company. Dr. Coros is also the co-founder of Helios Genomics a metagenomics company specializing in environmental microbial testing. As an Executive-In-Residence at TEC Edmonton, Dr. Coros is part of the Health Accelerator program that works with a variety of health care related companies. His educational background includes a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Western Ontario and an MBA degree specializing in Biotechnology from the Edwards School of Business at the University of Saskatchewan.
